Laser engraving is the preferred method to add serial numbers, NFA Trust & owner information, logos, custom graphics and features to guns or firearms, suppressors, rails, stocks and other accessories. Some firearm engravings such as serial numbers and class 3 / type 2 markings require certain depths to be reached. Do you have an FFL with the SOT?

Some will tell you it doesn’t matter, but it does for numerous reasons. Laser engraving a firearm does alter it, especially when adding trust information, serial numbers or manufacturing information. Having an FFL /w SOT signifies you have applied for and received a registration from the ATF as a business that operates legally in the firearm industry.

How long have you been engraving firearms?

Don’t just ask how long someone has been in business. Trophy shops have been around longer than most of us have been alive, but that doesn’t qualify one to legally and properly handle a firearm and modify it. Some shops will buy a laser for their own internal products and try to sell the excess capacity as engraving services. Don’t be a shop’s guinea pig for a new adventure. Stick with proven track records.

What types of guns have you engraved?

Every gun is different, using varying types of materials and having varying types of finishes. Material type will drive the type of laser to use and finish determines the best parameters to use. Only an experienced Laser Engraver knows how to work with all types.

How long will it take, can I wait for it and can I watch it get engraved?

The turnaround time really depends on the number and types of jobs waiting to be run. We generally quote 3-5 days to be safe but it can be much faster. A more accurate time frame can be given when the gun arrives in the shop. We do expedite orders and will allow customers to wait for an additional charge. Expediting and same day requires us to either stop or delay the start of other customers’ jobs. We do get asked by customers if they can see the lasers or watch their firearm being engraved. Unfortunately we can’t allow customers in the work area for numerous safety reasons while the machines are running.
